ethical/environmental/efficiency?
Capitalism is not a sustainable economic system because the pursuit of profit ALWAYS leads to a misallocation of resources. it is not environmentally friendly because environmental regulations ';get in the way'; of securing a profit. It is not ethical because it causes the majority of social injustices of the world (war, poverty, genocide, imperialism, crime, terrorism etc) as almost everything is essentially economically motivated, and other reasons for inefficient governments etc are due to reactionary ideals the result of a profit-based system that ONLY cares about profit and thus people have to justify their worth in other ways (ie nationalism, patriotism, religion, etc)
So what is your major objection to capitalism? On what grounds do you object to global capitalism?
You are completely right with your assessment.
But the economy is usually just a superficial indicator of our relationships to each other, indicating our selfish attitude for more profits, exploiting others.
This is our inherent human nature, but as we are entering the new global era of human evolution, within this closed, integral system this attitude, which has driven human progress up to this point, cannot function anymore.
So while before humanity enjoyed benefits of progress through competition, and expansion, we have to find a new way of relationships in our new global system.
From now on we have to work together for the benefit and well being of the whole, rather than for individual interests.
The time of capitalism is over, we have to live and work together as a single loving family.
Although it will be a difficult pill to swallow for a large portion of humanity, we simply do not have any other chances for our future.
I hope it helps, all the best.On what grounds do you object to global capitalism?
In the absence of laws prohibiting monopolies, ALL competition leads to monopoly control of industries. In the presence of laws prohibiting monopolies, oligopolies arise instead, and the effect is the same: higher prices and few choices for all.
One of the present problems with the American economy is 'bigness';. If it's too big to fail, we have to bail it out or our country will suffer irreparable losses. Another problem with bigness is the lack of consumer choices amongst products and services. Then, as you mentioned, there is the problem of ';externalities';: The cost of corporate waste is socialized and paid for by the government/taxpayers, and the profits remain privatized, going only to the stockholders and executives.
Personally, I am in favor of limiting the size of businesses beyond economies of scale, and in favor of a balanced economy, with a mixture of socialistic functions and free-markets as well.
yet it works and has created a more prosperous economy overall leaving people happier and less prone to radicalism that often leads to to aforemenbtioned things you balme on the great ecnonomic system
So none. :)
