Every bill that is passed before congress has about two hundred other pages to it that the general public never gets to see and is not given the right to object to it before it is voted on. Is there any website where you can see full bills that are going to congress and how can you bject to them esspecially if it has some hidden tax hike the public is not notified of it? Do you agree that something has to be done about this? Why is the general public not given the right to read and object to a bill that is going to be voted on?
Because we are a REPRESENTATIVE democracy. Our representatives can %26amp; I hope do read the bills. Why is the general public not given the right to read and object to a bill that is going to be voted on?
Check the links below.
The first two are the federal Senate sites; the next one is the California bills site.
Good luck!
Politics is very complex process and you have to understand many things.
1. Learn which committe is which.
a. Senate
http://www.senate.gov/pagelayout/committ鈥?/a>
b. House
http://www.house.gov/house/CommitteeWWW.鈥?/a>
This will tell you where your bill is being drafted upon.
2. Know your Senators and Congressman/ woman and understand what is their position.
You can find them at Senate.gov and House.gov.
3. Many lobbyist firms watch these bills and post analysis on their websites. Realize that you some time cannot read long bills and understand what they mean. So become member of these firms/ web sites which interest your issue cause.
Last, even if you have issue with bill that doenot mean Senator/ Congressman/ woman will do what you want. It is very simple to understand ..more people are behind certain issue, more chances are that you will get your wishes.
this country is not a full blown democracy, it's a republic, meaning we elect representatives who we trust to make the decisions that will help our state/county succeed.
I think there is too much trust going into this system, when really, we can't trust these politicians to be thinking of us, since they are so biased in their own way.
Of course we should have the right to vote on all bills the House and Senate pass but then we would live in true democracy .
It is the general public's obligation to research new bills thru the library, internet, etc. That is why we have congressmen and public officials. So, you can write to them!
Because our general public is so large, at over something like 30 billion to-date our government is set up to be run by the elected representatives of the people. The theory is that these elected officials are all about doing what the majority of the people want. Sadly, since WWII it has become more and more common for our elected governing bodies to represent themselves more than the people. I don't know if there is such a website, but if there is I would be amazed. This nonsensical crap of adding on just any old law or provison which has absolutely no relativity to the supposed main article of legislation is a total abuse of the governmental policy this country is supposed to be run by and does need to done away with. How? I don't know, because the people doing it are the ones who would have to vote to make it illegal !!! Maybe if we did away (by voting against them) with all the current senators and representatives and filled congress with all new people we would have a chance......
Here's another good resource. http://www.gpoaccess.gov/bills/index.htm鈥?/a> Any bill that reaches a full vote in the House or Senate will be there before that vote occurs. Versions that do not survive committe may not actual be available for the public to read, but if they didn't survive committee, then they aren't being voted on.
